Five Tips for Long-Term Golf Cart Storage

Are you storing your golf carts for the winter? This can be a seasonal procedure, but it’s best to ensure that you’re taking proper care of them for the duration. To many people, winter means golf cart storage. This is when they take it out of commission until the snow melts and the flowers start to bloom again!

While there’s no getting around the fact that winter storage causes damage to a battery, there are plenty of steps you can take to make sure your golf cart battery stays healthy and robust while in storage.

Cover It Up

To protect your golf cart from damaging UV rays and other environmental elements, find a good cover. Carts with vinyl seats will fare better than those with cloth-covered seats. You can also use a generic car cover that works just fine to protect the golf cart from snow and moisture. The key is to find one that is long enough to wrap the cart to protect it from sun exposure fully.

Include a Battery Tender

Long-term storage should include a battery tender or trickle charger that keeps your battery charged and protected. You don’t want to go into the next season with an uncharged battery; plug the battery until it’s fully charged before storing it. This will reduce sulfation and prevent corrosion from forming on the terminals.

Change Your Oil

Golf cart engines are similar to car engines because they require oil changes to run smoothly and properly. A good rule of thumb is to change out your oil every 100 hours of operation or once per year, whichever comes first.

Tires

Check the tire pressure and ensure that everything is properly inflated, including the spare tire. Check all the treads to make sure they have plenty of life left in them. Check to notice on the tires for any cracks or splits over time. If anything’s wrong with the tires, it’s going to cost you a lot of money to repair or replace them.

Wash It

If your golf cart isn’t going to be used for an extended period, you should wash it before putting it into storage. This will prevent rust from taking hold and damaging any of the paint you paid for when you bought the cart.

And by following these easy tips, all you have to do is flip a switch, and your golf cart will be up and running again in no time!
